Campaign Statement
From Brian Roberts/Dec. 14, 2023, 10:13 a.m.
I am running for District 2 Supervisor. I offer honesty above everything else. I offer respect to everyone in the county and my integrity to serve the county as the best possible Supervisor there is. My commitment is 100% as I will shutter my Cannabis cultivation for four years while in office. I will be present at every meeting and not have any conflict of interest regarding cannabis.
Keeping it real:
No supervisor alone can make drastic changes. It is a job of compromise and negotiation with other board members. A strong leader in negotiation can help get southern Humboldt our fair share of the pie when it comes to funding for roads, schools, tourism and emergency planning. First off though we need to find out what happened to the $52 million in tax revenue from Measure S and how come it doesn’t show in the community? Instead we have a $17.7 Million dollar deficit.
Our local economy is hurting so bad right now, it’s the worst it’s been since post legalization. Instead of letting farmers start their business with trademarks, packaging and more they paid cost recovery bills.
Some possible solutions are a redevelopment area in parts of Southern Humboldt, tax breaks for new businesses that stay in business five years or more. Actually streamlining permits and offering a discount for any permit in Southern Humboldt from the planning department.
Public safety:
My main concern is that we have the funds and personnel needed for fire protection, medical emergencies and police responses, we live in a remote and dangerous terrain.
The beauty that we all love and endear is also a liability during an emergency.
The first responders can’t be delayed because our roads are falling apart when it’s a matter of life and death. I should know after surviving a 30-foot fall off Alderpoint because of a pot hole the size of an olympic pool.
Drug addicts, mentally ill / homeless people are a problem. We need to find a way to solve this crisis. Petty crime is a public safety matter that needs to be addressed affecting businesses and homeowners. Business owners shouldn’t be afraid to lock up at night.
Cannabis crimes should be in the hands of California Fish and Wildlife, the California Water Board and the Department of Cannabis Control. Our local agencies should report the violations of ordinances but leave environmental crimes to those agencies best at getting a conviction.
The planning department should not be an unlicensed police department. Shift our resources more towards the Humboldt County drug task force and clean up the hard drugs.
Transparency:
Open the government up and give the public the opportunity to see what’s really going on.
I was brought up in a household that did work for local, state and federal agencies.
The first thing I was told when dealing with Government agencies is keep a detailed record of all transactions from phone calls to mailing in documents. Never leave any detail out of your notebook, you will be dealing with multiple people for one project. All Cannabis Permits in Humboldt.
