Local and Regional Elected Officials Endorse Madrone for Re-Election

Fifth District Supervisor Steve Madrone announced endorsements from several current and former elected officials who represent the people of the Fifth District and Humboldt County at the local, state and federal levels.

Supporters include Congressman Jared Huffman, Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire, State Assemblyman Jim Wood, former State Senator Senator Wesley Chesbro, former Humboldt County Supervisors Julie Fulkerson, Bonnie Neely and John Woolley, Trinidad Council Member and Mayor, Steve Ladwig, Fifth District Harbor Commissioner Patrick Higgins and Fourth District Harbor Commissioner Richard Marks.

“I’m running for re-election to continue working for a vibrant, safe and healthy community that benefits all of us. I’ve created partnerships with elected leaders in the region, and at the state and federal levels, because that’s what it takes to get results. The support from so many current and former elected officials means a lot to me, and I’m excited about the projects we will collaborateon in the near future, such as the Great Redwood Trail, the restoration of the estuary of Redwood Creek, and achieving health care for all,” said Madrone.

He’s a thoughtful and effective Supervisor and I’m proud to endorse him for re-election.” said Congressman Jared Huffman, who has represented the 2nd Assembly District including the North Coast since 2012. “I’m grateful to have Steve Madrone on the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. He brings such a connection to the natural resource issues that are critical to the North Coast economy and way of life. He’s a policy wonk, a fish head and someone I can reach out to and partner with on a whole bunch of great projects like the incredible opportunity we have to restore the estuary of Redwood Creek, which is happening in part due to Steve’s leadership.”

“Steve fights everyday for Humboldt County and the North Coast. He’s a bridge builder, always puts people above politics and is a champion for working families,” said Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire, representing the North Coast in the State Senate since 2014. “I have been honored to work with Steve to tackle our communities’ toughest issues including expanding health care and tackling the homelessness crisis by building new units with wrap around mental health services. And, I am so appreciative of Steve’s leadership to get the Great Redwood Trail done.”

“I’ve known Steve for a very long time and he is a deeply committed and very effective advocate for his community. With all the new economic development and clean energy projects on the horizon, we need someone with Steve’s deep knowledge and experience to help make sure these projects are compatible with our community’s interests and values,” said McKinleyville resident Wesley Chesbro, a former County Supervisor and State Senator who represented the North Coast in the California Legislature for twelve years.
