Yurok Tribal Council Endorses Steve Madrone for 5th District Seat
Vying for a second term, the incumbent embodies all of the characteristics of an effective leader
The Yurok Tribal Council is pleased to announce our endorsement of Steve Madrone for the 5th District seat on the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors.
“We support Steve Madrone because he is a strong leader, who understands the issues that are most important to us,” said Joseph L. James, the Chairman of the Yurok Tribe. “Steve has dedicated his entire life to developing solutions to the most pressing challenges in Humboldt County. Throughout his professional career and while in office, he has proven time and time again that he is committed to making our shared community a better place for all residents.”
Supervisor Madrone is a longtime advocate for the Tribe’s effort to remove four antiquated dams on the Klamath River, the lifeline of the Yurok people. He is also a supporter of the Tribe’s salmon habitat restoration work on the Trinity River, the Klamath’s largest tributary.
Equally important, the 5th District representative is not afraid to take bold action when it comes to correcting historic injustices. For example, he voiced his support for the renaming of Sue-meg State Park, formerly Patrick’s Point State Park.
In 2018, the Yurok Tribe endorsed Supervisor Madrone for his first term. He is running for his second term in the 5th District, which extends from Orick to McKinleyville on the coast and the inland boundaries encompass the area between Orleans and Willow Creek. If you live this area, please register to vote if you haven’t already. Vote for Steve Madrone on June 7.
