Follow up regarding Financial Corruption at the County Level

I’ve read your response to my earlier question and I have a follow up question.

Is it your contention that there is no financial corruption at our County level?

Response

Cheryl Dillingham

Over my career, I have caught and corrected many errors some in the millions of dollars. Most of these errors have been simple mistakes that were easy to correct and were not the result of fraud or bad intent. I have also caught cases of actual theft or fraud which resulted in internal investigations, termination, or referrals to HR, the Sheriff’s Office or the DA as appropriate, but these are far less common. Failure to get audits and reports done on time has the potential to allow any fraud or errors to continue unchecked.

As Auditor-Controller, I want to promote trust in local government through integrity, transparency, and accountability. My goal is to prevent financial corruption and misuse of funds through strong internal controls, not just to catch it after it happens.
