Samantha Jones asks Yes on A — Cannabis Reform Initiative Proponents

Why bother ?

Since this initiative has been declared the “final nail in the coffin” for the few family farms that are left in Humboldt County, why did you tell petition signers that your initiative would protect them? What language in your proposal speaks to protecting small farmers?

Measure A supports small-scale cultivation by limiting number and size of farming areas:

a.   New permits could not exceed 10,000 sf

b.   Permits to expand cultivation would be limited to a maximum of 10,000 sf

c.    There would be no approval of more multiple permits per person or per parcel, which has resulted in what has been referred to as mega-grows.  Limiting new permits to 10,000 sf. and to those with no previous permit would discourage corporate or conglomerate business from establishing new operations in Humboldt.

d.   The cap on total permits would prevent over 2000 more permits from being approved, as called for in the current ordinance.

e.   These steps help the small local farmer address overproduction, make our county less attractive to large corporations, and create a foundation for protecting and marketing the “Humboldt brand.”

The vested rights of all licensed cultivators are protected. This means a person’s cannabis cultivation permit cannot be taken away.  What a licensed cultivator has now is protected.
