Ethics

I learned a 10th grade Gov’t/Econ and by watching and listening to Supreme Court hearings that if one serves in public office that person is ethically and morally responsible to the people they serve. You have voted on agenda items, brought calendar items to the floor and deliberated on cannabis and cultivation related issues, all while operating your personal marijuana business. Many see this as a conflict of interest and unethical, and others just downright corrupt. If re-elected, will you commit to recusing yourself in all matters that relate to cannabis as long as you continue to operate your personal cannabis business? This includes discussing, deliberating, voting as well as using your power to help your friends in the planning department with permits and whatnot? If not, how are you going to get past the appearance of a potential conflict of interest? The Supreme Court says the appearance of a potential conflict of interest is the threshold for recusing.

Michelle Bushnell

Hi ,

No, I will not, my commitment is to seek FPPC guidance for issues of this nature. I always follow their guidelines, and have recused when needed . Additionally, I seek my own legal councils advise when appropriate. How I help my constituents with “MY POWER” is by doing my job. What you suggest is not ethical , moral, or legal and nothing I have ever done! There is always an assumption that this job brings power, that is just that, an assumption.  My power is on the dais in open public meetings  working with my fellow supervisors to make our county a better place. I explain when there is an item that may appear as a conflict.  From day one, I have disclosed my business interest . I did this prior to every being elected I always want to be fully transparent. Happy to talk with anyone , here is my number
