Does measure A subject growers to increase taxation?

I am  a local Humboldt rural resident. My neighbor claims that her cannabis taxes will double with MEASURE A. Is there any truth to this?

You can put your neighbor’s fears to rest.  Measure A says absolutely nothing about taxes.

This has been clarified by Judge Timothy Canning in his decision settling the law suit brought against the County’s Registrar of Voters, Juan Cervantes, and the proponents of Measure A, by HCGA and seven individual growers.

To paraphrase Judge Canning : Measure A does not propose to raise taxes.  Measure A changes some definitions of growing techniques, but whether those would result in tax changes is up to county officials.  The county has the power under Measure S to reduce taxes, and it has used this power in the past to relieve growers of tax liability.

We can’t control how county staff might interpret or apply Measure A in a specific situation, and we certainly can’t give anyone legal advice.  But we can say how we intend the measure to be applied if it passes. And it does seem on the question of taxes the judge does agree with us.
