Where Will Humboldt Be Merry on New Year’s Eve 2015?
Raise a glass to 2015. Take a drink. Now smash that glass on the floor. You were a rough one, 2015. ‘Tis time for Humboldt to celebrate the end of you.
Where will you do your New Year’s Eve reverse counting Thursday night? If you did not get invited to the super-exclusive, sure-to-be rager at ████ ██████’s crib, don’t worry. There is plenty of open-to-the-public revelry for the rest of us to enjoy, most of it centered in Arcata, unsurprisingly. In addition to always beer-damp tavern row proceedings, the Big 3 A-Town venues all offer their own unique joy options:
- Humboldt Brews: Tried and true local musical good time providers Absynth Quintet and The Trouble jam, rock, thump and squawk you into 2016.
- The Jam: Local, incestuous funk all-star combos Object Heavy and Motherlode invite you to get up off of that thing and dance ’til the four-digit number on your calendar increases by a value of one.
- Arcata Theatre Lounge: World Famous Productions, Humboldt’s most diligent beat drop funnel, will gather DJs and and lights for its Fancy Pants Dance Party. If your fancy pants dance moves are the fancy pantsiest you will win prizes!
Should you have an aversion to Arcata for some reason (sure!), there are other people clusters to glom to. Note that queer cabaret spectacle Caravan of Glam will be at Blue Lake Casino — they’re big fun. Too many metal bands will ruin your ears for the new year at The Siren’s Song Tavern in Eureka (one of the groups is called Muppet Hunter!). Or maybe you want to drive to Petrolia! The Mattole Grange Society is hosting a family friendly barn dance featuring necessary ingredients Striped Pig Band and caller Lyndsey Battle. Designate a driver or yurt.
