‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ Still Sounds Pretty Good on Ukulele (VIDEO)

Shimabukuro, DeMarco

Intense night at Humboldt State University with not one but two musical storms blowing through:

  • Jake Shimabukuro has spent his career proving that ukuleles are meant for more than just providing a nice soundtrack at a surfer beach bonfire. Dude’s got serious fingers. Tonight he brings his virtuosity and dexterity to the Van Duzer Theatre stage. To LoCO, though, a mention of Jake always reminds us of the time he deconstructed The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” live on KHUM, a performance preserved for the ages in pixel form on YouTube, thankfully. (See below on the left).
  • Elsewhere on campus: Canadian slacker rocker Mac DeMarco has built a reputation as a concert class clown. Tonight he brings his giant personality and synth-y indie pop to HSU’s West Gym. Would you also like a YouTube sampling of Mr. DeMarco? LoCO can do that for you. (See below on the right).
