In this election there are two seats that are to be filled.  If you were to win, which of your fellow candidates would you want to serve on the Council with?

Thank you for this question. There are two seats to be filled and if I were to win one of those seats, I am willing to work with anyone the voters choose.

Sup Internet Surfer,

I would want to work with Meredith if I got the other available seat. There is my hot take and honest answer. I’m, of course, willing to work with whoever is elected, but Meredith’s proven track record, diligence and articulate working style is something that I admire and appreciate in a co-worker.

I see my first duty as to work with the people of Arcata. If we as elected officials are doing our jobs, which to me means not just showing up, but actually listening to our constituents, then representing their views and beliefs with or votes, the system is working as intended. I’m happy to work with anyone Arcatans choose on November 8th. However, I won’t hold back with my criticisms if I believe my colleagues are violating conflicts of interest laws, discriminating against people with disabilities, wasting tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money on doomed projects and unjust actions, or not fullfilling their commitment to the people of Arcata.

A Council Member’s job consists of so much more than attending Council Meetings. We represent the City of Arcata in Board Positions with our local JPA’s, liaison appointments, and out in the community. We spend hours meeting with citizens and doing background research on issues and represent Arcata at all the events we attend.  I would like to work with someone who is able to fulfill these obligations. At the end of the day, who fills these seats will be decided by the voters, and I will work with anyone who is dedicated to making the City of Arcata a better place.
