Lowdown: Humboldt’s Friday Night Takes Place in Arcata

Plaza people teem imminent. While Blue Lake and Fortuna gear up for their respective weeklong human-traffic increases (due to the Humboldt Folklife Festival and Fortuna Rodeo Week, respectively), Humboldt’s most reliable cultural hub dominates Friday’s scene thanks to the monthly Arts!Arcata. Evidence follows:

  • Jambalaya: Amps will scream at the triple rock shot at the Jam comprised of two duos from out of town (Qui (see below), Lozen) and one local ensemble (Clean Girl and the Dirty Dishes). Get your hands out of your pockets.
  • Humboldt Brews: Where’s Queer Bill stages their latest LGBT/Ally event, the Drag me to the Beach Drag Show/Dance Party, a benefit for Queer Humboldt. There will be heels.
  • Arcata Theatre Lounge: After taking in Arts!Arcata’s visual delights, further fill your eyes with the spectacle to the Talking Heads’ seminal 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense. And you can eat wings.
  • Arcata Ball Park: Crabs. Duh.
  • Abruzzi: The Plaza’s go-to candlelit dinner location will again transform into an after-hours bump lounge courtesy of DJs Pressure Anya. Butts will touch.
