— Yesterday, the district attorney’s office charged a Eureka Police Department officer with theft, vandalism, disclosure of private DMV records and possession of a Keitelian cornucopia of drugs – weed, heroin and prescription meds in all colors of the rainbow. The charges against Ofc. Daniel Kalis are the result of a three-month joint District Attorney/EPD investigation. In the T-S, reported Thad Greenson speaks to DA Paul Gallegos and discovers that many cases investigated by Kalis – until recently, a detective at the EPD – may be in jeopardy.

— The trash showdown at the Humboldt Waste Management Authority last night yielded some results for supporters of the Arcata Community Recycling Center, the T-S reports. After hearing testimony from about 40 pro-ACRC citizens, including workers at the recycling center’s sorting facility, the authority decided to ask the county Board of Supervisors and the city councils that participate in the waste management program for feedback on the proposed contract with a Willits garbage firm.
