A quick recap of today’s top news:

• The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified the body recovered from the Eel River on July 28th, 2011 as that of missing person Edward Jensen Jr. KIEM News Channel 3 has the brief, Redheaded Blackbelt Kym Kemp has more.

• Also on the Redheaded Blackbelt blog, a deeper look (or at least an effort toward gleaning more info) on the recent Mendocino National Forest pot busts. In particular, Kemp wants to know just who was arrested:

“Mexican cartels or homegrown hoodlums or… ? The question of whether the marijuana grows on public lands are manned by Mexican cartels or if those assumptions are based on racist stereotypes is one that has been tossed among locals and even the national media.”

• They’re baaaaaaaack! Goats, that is. Dairy goats. If you missed it here on LoCO, check out Cypress Grove’s press release. Also, this report from NCJ’s Heidi Walters, this story in the Mack Press and this write-up in the Arcata Eye. (If you don’t have time to click on the links, the deal is, world-famous cheesemakers wanted to expand in Arcata. Arcata said no. Cheesemakers went to McKinleyville. McKinleyville said yes. Booya.) (Goats: they’re big news.)

Also, if you’re one of those people who, oh, drinks water, make sure you check out today’s Coastal Currents. Everything you need to know about the Clean Water Act and how it might just be a thing of the past. Brawndo, anyone?
