From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 08-17-2011, approximately 10:00 p.m. , the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a 50-year-old Garberville man who said he had been assaulted. Deputies met with the victim at Redwood Rural Health, Redway, who had visible injuries to his face and head. The victim declined medical attention.

The victim told the deputies he had been assaulted by two males, later identified as Todd Holt and Seth Sandy, who showed up at his residence in Whitethorn about 8:30 p.m. Holt told the victim he was upset over the victim dating his girlfriend. The victim told the deputies Todd Holt pushed him outside his home, and then struck him in the head and body with a large metal flashlight, knocking him to the ground. Holt then pointed a loaded 9 mm semi-auto handgun at the victim’s head, loaded a round into the chamber and pulled the trigger. The gun failed to fire, so Holt tried a second time. For unknown reasons the weapon failed to fire. Holt told the victim he would kill him and his family if he reported the crime. Holt and the Sandy then stole several items from the victim’s pickup truck and fled the scene. The victim provided the deputies with Holt’s vehicle description.

Deputies located Holt and Sandy in the Shop Smart Parking Lot, Redway at approximately 11:00 p.m. in Holt’s pickup truck. The deputies arrested Holt and Sandy. Deputies located a loaded 9 mm semi- auto handgun and large metal flashlight during the arrest.

Deputies arrested Todd Howard Holt, 49 years old of Redway, for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, possession of stolen property and terrorist threats. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility; his bail was set at $500,000.00.

Deputies also arrested Seth Colton Sandy, 23 years old of Garberville, for aiding and abetting in a crime, robbery, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property and possession of tear gas. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility; his bail was set at $100,000.00.
