Garberville business woman Charlotte Silverstein (pictured above) is not happy with the decision by The Times Standard to stop delivering papers to much of Southern Humboldt.  “The Times Standard is a Humboldt County newspaper. They want our advertising dollars but now they wont even distribute the paper here in So Hum. It’s just another case of the Orphaned child of So Hum not getting the services that No Hum get. I think it’s really time to break away, remember when we were planning Sequoia County…”

Beginning August 31, the Times Standard will no longer be delivering to many rural areas in Southern Humboldt (and beyond).  And now the same rural residents will no longer be able to access the Times Standard online without a hefty fee. This, of course, applies to all users of the online version but hits rural residents especially hard as they don’t have the option of receiving hard copies except by mail—which will require long drives to access especially if the postal service shuts down many of our small post offices. (Don’t forget, Phillipsville folk, the post office meeting is this Tuesday at 5.) Southern Humboldt residents which have difficulty accessing high speed internet will be further cut off from communication.

Asked if she plans to buy the Times Standard online or have it sent to her mail,  Silverstein replied firmly, “No I will not purchase the paper. If they don’t support us, why should we support them.”
