Stephen Walters doesn’t appear inclined to let it all blow over. After Ferndale high school football fans were accused of hurling racial epithets at a Salesian coach last weekend — the third such accusation of racist behavior by Wildcats fans against opposing coaches or players in a year — the San Francisco attorney today asked the North Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation to conduct a formal investigation of the Ferndale High School program.

Walters writes:

This is a complaint against the Ferndale High School football program for violations of the NCS Code of Conduct and Rules regarding Sportsmanship. The Complaint arises from a recurring pattern of racial epithets and taunting by Ferndale “superfans” which apparently is tolerated by the administration of that school.

and

I am concerned that denial and cover-up are the order of the day when it comes to the Ferndale football program, and that school officials cannot be counted on to put a stop to this behavior.

Walters’ complaint, dated today, follows. Thanks to the Ferndale Enterprise for posting it.

Programming note: Walters will appear on the John Matthews program at 7 a.m. Monday to talk about what he wants to see happen next, and what might follow if the CIF declines to follow up on his complaint. That’s on KSLG: 94.1 FM, streaming at kslg.com.
