shooter– From Del Norte, a horrible story: Police are on the lookout for a Los Gatos man believed to have shot and gravely wounded a Crescent City woman and her 13-year-old daughter. The man – Jerry Wayne Steele, 60 – had previously been convicted of molesting the girl, the Daily Triplicate reports; the woman had moved to a Crescent City trailer park to hide from him.

– The great struggle against the goatification of the Arcata Bottoms continues in earnest today. Protestors against Cypress Grove’s plan to build a goat dairy to feed their booming cheese enterprise will be picketing the place at 4 p.m., with a community organizing meeting set for 6:30 p.m. at Coastal Grove School, according to organizer Carol McFarland.

The corporatization of everything continues apace; next thing you know they’ll be farming shellfish in Humboldt Bay, or building energy-intensive indoor agricultural facilities in Alderpoint. But Cypress Grove’s world domination is still on the rise; our culture-spotting colleagues at KHUM today noted a shout-out to the company in this morning’s hottest Internetz video. – Same-sex marriage opponents were handed a cruel defeat in federal court today, after their considered argument that this one judge is a big homo failed to persuade. Proposition 8 is still overturned. Gay marriage opponents will have to try a new thrust. (Geddit?!?)
