Local Band Twango Macallan will be playing at this year’s Summer Arts Fest. It’s the 35th annual Festival at Benbow this weekend. I’ve gone to almost everyone but I’m missing this year. Have fun for me. Check out the lineup of music and booths below.
Local Acts Abound At The Summer Arts & Music Festival June 4 & 5
With the 35th annual Summer Arts & Music Festival coming up in less than a
month, the Mateel Community Center is in high gear getting ready for this favorite local
event slated to hit the shores of Benbow Lake State Recreation Area on the weekend of
June 4th and 5th. The most comprehensive and affordable celebration of art and
entertainment on the North Coast, the festival will again feature more than 100 diverse
performances on 4+ stages, over 150 handmade craft and food booths, an all-media fine
arts showcase, outrageous kid zone, belly dance temple, and the Generation Green
alternative energy tent, along with lots of other delights for the ears, eyes, body, mind,
and soul.
While the event draws performers, vendors, and attendees from across the country
and even internationally, it is also one of the great showcases of our local creative arts
talent and many of the exhibitors and entertainers hail from right here in Humboldt and
Mendocino Counties. For the full scoop on who will be part of the event this year, pick
up a copy of the official program guide which will be out at local newsstands in the
coming weeks. But, for a taste of the local action now, expect performances by festival
favorites like Feet First, Lost Coast Marimbas, Chris & Peter, The NPK, NightHawk,
Laxshmi’s Daughters, FreeLove Circus, Some Of The Truest, Berel Alexander Ensemble,
Speed Of Darkness, Asha Nan, Moo Got 2, Orphan In The Afterlife, and Woven Roots
plus a whole bunch of first time Summer Arts performers like Madi Simmons & The
Mighty Redwood Ambassadors, Top Shelf, Sign 1 Nine, Twango McCallen, Dirt Floor
Band, The No Good Redwood Ramblers, Devi Leela, Grass Band, Out Of The Blue,
Vanishing Pints, Mod Brothers, Kindred Spirits, and many more that will be announced
soon.
Admission is at the gate only and is priced at $15 per day or $25 for the weekend
pass with kids 12 and under free. Gates open at 9:30am and entertainment runs from
10am to 10pm both days. A free festival shuttle is offered continuously from Redway,
Garberville, Benbow, and the Richardson Grove and Benbow Lake campgrounds. All
southern Humboldt attendees are encouraged to ride the shuttle, though a limited amount
of paid parking is also available in Benbow. For more information on the great times
