Remember a few weeks ago when that dude from the Citizens Redistricting Commission tried to pull that Obi-Wan move on me, telling me that those maps on their website were not maps? (Lo and flippin’ behold – come the day, turned out they were maps after all.)
Well, today we face a similar dilemma. A new set of “visualization tools” were recently posted on the CRC website, wedrawthelines.ca.gov (h/t LoCO superfan “ML”). These are released well in advance of the official July 12 relase date for second-round maps.
Of particular interest this time are the items relating to proposed North Coast Congressional districts. Please keep in mind: This is not a map.
See that? It’s all shook up, pretty much like the Humco Board of Supes wanted it to be!!! In place of the coastal superdistrict, you’ve got the First District bottoming out at Santa Rosa. Marin, meanwhile, hooks up with friggin’ Clearlake. (And will deeply regret it the next morning, no doubt.)
But check out this very slightly magnified non-view:
That’s right, friends. Under this non-scenario, we get Santa Rosa back. What we don’t get back is St. Helena, our current Rep. Mike Thompson’s home base in the Napa Valley. Instead, what you’re left with is Thompson, San Rafael’s sharp-dressed Assemblymember Jared Huffman and freedom fighter Norman Solomon all out on the hustings in Nice and Lucerne, battling for the favor of bluehairs and meth addicts! And maybe Gavin Newsom too!
That would really be something to see!
