— Claudia Pedreros will be arraigned for the murder of her daughter in Trinity County Superior Court tomorrow, the Record-Searchlight reports.

— The skirmish over the Kinetic Sculpture Race — yes, I know I’m not supposed to call it that — has ended in detente. Over the weekend, Justin Brown, son of race founder Hobart Brown, announced that he and Kinetic Universe have come to agreement after the two parties went through mediation. It’s not quite clear from the press release how Brown’s ownership claim of certain copyrights and trademarks associated with the race was resolved, but apparently everyone will continue to negotiate after this year’s race is over.

Brown’s press release is here. Background to the whole affair here.

— IP Networks, the company that’s going to be building the county’s second fiber-optic connection to the infogrid, is set to start construction next week. Their east-west line will complement AT&T’s current north-south line along Hwy 101, and its completion — scheduled for September — will mean that we’ll never again have to endure total telecom death from an errant shovel.

Landowners along IP Networks’ route will be getting the following letter over the next few days:

IP Networks, Inc. has contracted Three Phase Line, Inc. to install a fiber optic cable and enable highspeed broadband communication, largely along the Hwy 36 corridor from Cottonwood, CA to Eureka. The entire project has been scheduled from May 31 st through September 30th 2011.

The work consists of attaching fiber optic cable to existing PG&E infrastructure, replacing, upgrading and/or moving some existing PG&E infrastructure, site restoration and site improvement. Land vehicles as well as helicopters will be utilized daily as modes for accessing the transmission line right of way.

Regular working hours fall between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional work on Saturdays, except holidays. Access to properties via public roads will be maintained at all times for local residents, business, and emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulatory, etc.).

Although some inconvenience may be unavoidable, we intend to do what we can to minimize whatever impact the construction activities may cause you. During construction, please contact the Project Manager, Ed Greenfield, (415) 962-9520 if you should have any questions or concerns regarding the construction.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.
