From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 10-27-2011, approximately 2:45 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office was told by Fortuna Police Department that an assault victim was at Redwood Memorial Hospital and the assault was believed to have occurred in the counties jurisdiction. Deputies arrived and met with Fortuna Police Officers who were standing by with the victim.

Deputies and detectives spoke with the 28 year old Hispanic male victim who had been stabbed and shot. They also spoke with the victim’s cousin who had driven the victim to the hospital.

The victim told investigators around 1:45 a.m. he drove to Rio Dell to buy beer. As he was driving back to his residence via Grizzly Bluff Road enroute to the 200 block of Renner Road, Ferndale, he saw a newer model Ford Expedition parked along the road. He pulled up next to the vehicle to speak with the occupants and three masked men exited the vehicle. One of the suspects was holding a shotgun. They demanded money and stole $100.00 from the victim. The suspects shot the victim who managed to get into his vehicle and flee the scene. The suspects chased the victim to his home where the victim ran inside. The suspects shot through the door of the home before entering inside the home. Once inside the home they assaulted the victim further before fleeing the scene.

Sheriff’s Investigators and Fortuna Police Investigators are still on scene trying to determine what happened. At this point suspect description is limited, other than three white males wearing ski masks driving a newer model White over Tan Ford Expedition.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
