… for once.
Today the best newspaper in America was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for a disturbing, beautiful, soul-crushing, terrible, inspirational story called “The Bravest Woman in Seattle.”
I read it late one Saturday afternoon at my kitchen table last year, back when my Stranger subscription was still active. It’s that kind of story — nearly a year later, I remember where I was and what the circumstances were when I had the good fortune to read it. You read it now.
This is the same paper whose editor once came up with a simple and genius program to save newspapers: Simply put the word “fuck” in a headline above the front-page fold every single day until all the dead weight of your wrinkled readership leaves and leaves you alone forever. I was just telling my students that story today, before I heard this validational news. I hope they listened.
