Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Press Release:

On 04-17-2012, approximately 11:45 p.m. Hoopa Tribal Police Officers responded to a residence on Pine Creek Road, Hoopa near Masten Flat to attempt a warrant arrest on Todd Littlebear Schlueter, 28 years old of Hoopa who was wanted by Trinity County for a felony warrant involving drugs.

When the officers arrived at the residence they located Schlueter inside the residence along with his five year old child. The officers arrested Schlueter on the warrant and searched his bedroom. While searching the bedroom they located a bucket with two improvised explosive devices in it. The officers immediately evacuated the home with the arrested Schlueter and the child. The Humboldt County Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad was notified and immediately responded to the scene. Two explosives trained deputies utilizing a robot rendered both explosives safe.

One explosive device was approximately 10” long and 3” in diameter. The other was approximately 4” long and 1” in diameter. Both were determined to be live explosives. The contents of the explosives devices are still to be determined. After the explosive devices were removed and an additional search of the residence revealed a loaded revolver, rifle and possible machine gun with the barrel missing.

Child Welfare Services was notified and the child has been placed with a relative. Schluelter was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on charges of felon in possession of a firearm; felon is possession of ammunition, possession of a destructive device and making a destructive device, violation of probation and the Trinity County Warrant. His bail is set at $170,000.00.
