Fortuna Police Dept. Press Release:

On April 15, 2012 at about 1:30 pm, officers of the Fortuna Police Department were dispatched to a residence located in the 3000 block of College Avenue for a suspected Burglary. Officers spoke the home owner who reported the theft of property from the detached shop. The homeowner was able to provide the officers with video footage from a camera that monitored the interior of the shop.
 
After receiving and reviewing the video footage days later, officers were able to positively identify Gerald Wayne Newmaker (49) of Fortuna and Brice Kendall (26) of Fortuna as the subjects who entered the shop and removed the property.  
 
On April 17, 2012 at about 1:00 pm, officers contacted Gerald Newmaker at his residence regarding the pending investigation and subsequently conducted a search of his residence per Newmakers’ county probation terms. While conducting a search of Newmaker’s residence, officers located Brice Kendall in the garage of the residence. Also located in the garage was property identified as the property stolen from the College Avenue shop.
 
Gerald Newmaker and Brice Kendall were both taken into custody and transported to the Humboldt County Jail for suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a felony.
