As happy an ending as can be expected. From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 04-18-2012, approximately 7:00 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriffs Deputies were called to the 100 block of Loleta Drive, Loleta regarding an unwanted subject. When deputies arrived they met with the reporting party and property owner who told they deputies the unwanted person was a relative who was now in the garage area. When the deputies entered the garage to speak with the 23 year old male, he brandished an 11 inch knife and began telling the deputies he wanted to die. The male refused the deputies commands to put down the knife and told the officers several times he wanted them to shoot him.

Another deputy who was a trained hostage negotiator and was on duty at the time responded to the scene and was able to calm the subject down and persuade the male to put down the knife after several minutes of speaking with him.

The male was transported to mental health for an evaluation. No one was injured during the incident.
