What that old saying about not breaking more than one law at a time?

From the Eureka Police Department:

On 12-13-2012 at about 4:02 pm, officers of the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue to a burglary in progress. Dispatch advised that the victim had phoned earlier to report that his residence had been broken into and items of property were missing. Minutes later, the victim re-phoned and stated that he believed the suspects had returned and were back inside his residence.

While officers were responding, the victim advised that the suspects had exited his residence and were leaving northbound on Harrison Avenue. The victim followed the suspects and kept dispatch updated with the suspect’s description and whereabouts.

Upon officers arrival they located two suspects running southbound on Dean Street, towards 18th Street. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to stop and detain one suspect on 18th Street. The second suspect was apprehended about a block south of this location. The victim was brought to both locations and positively identified both suspects. The two suspects were identified as Eric Thomas Dare (32 years old of Eureka) and Joe Alonzo Haslam (34 years old of Eureka).

While the suspects were being interviewed, a search warrant was sought and issued for the suspect’s residence, which was located at the 2400 block of 18th Street. A search of the residence resulted in not only the recovery of most of the victim’s stolen property, but numerous firearms and a large amount of processed and unprocessed marijuana, along with illegally possessed prescription medications.

A third suspect was soon identified in the incident. He was determined to be Kevin Lee Rogers (18 years old of Eureka). Rogers was soon located and taken into custody in Blue Lake. Rogers admitted to his involvement in the burglary and indicated that he had sold some of the stolen property at a local business.

As a result of the investigation, it is believed that the victim’s residence had been burglarized earlier in the day and that the suspects had returned a short time later to steal additional property, which was when they were witnessed in the residence by the victim.

All three suspects were booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility of charges of burglary and possession of stolen property. Dare and Haslam were also charged with resisting arrest. Additional charges regarding the located controlled substances will be added upon completion of the investigation. All three suspects are being held on $50,000 bail each.
