Caltrans Press Release:
Caltrans has announced the lifting of all bicycle detours originally set in place due to the Mad River Bridges replacement project on Route 101. Bicycle travel between McKinleyville and Arcata can now be accessed in both directions on the new bridge facilities.
Cyclists are reminded that bridge and roadway construction is still underway. The placement of permanent stripes, shoulder improvements, and barrier construction remains to be completed. Proceed with extra caution through the construction zone, and please follow advisory signs and traffic direction from construction personnel.
Pedestrian access along the new multi-purpose path located on the northbound Mad River Bridge remains restricted until its completion. Pedestrians should continue to use an alternate route. Once the multi-purpose path is completed, pedestrians will be able to travel over the bridge connecting Wymore Road to Route 200/North Bank Road.
For questions about bicycling on State highways in Humboldt County, please contact Alyson Hunter, Caltrans District 1 Bicycle Coordinator at 707-441-4542.
