The department has been investigating an early morning burglary that occurred at a gas station located in the 800 block of Main Street. During the investigation, officers viewed surveillance video from a nearby business and were able to obtain information on a possible suspect.
On February 18, 2012 at about 2:00am, an officer with the department observed two subjects engaged in suspicious behavior in the 2100 block of Jenny Lane. As the officer attempted to contact the subjects, they both fled on foot through the residential area.
Officers pursued the subjects on foot and were able to apprehend them in 2100 block of Redwood Way. Upon contact, an officer recognized one of the subjects as the possible suspect from the gas station burglary.
Upon further investigation, the 17 year old Fortuna resident admitted to his involvement in the burglary.
The 17 year old was subsequently arrested for burglary, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and prowling upon property of another. The 17 year old was transported to the Humboldt County Juvenile Hall.
The other subject, Dusty More (Age 18 –Fortuna) was not believed to be involved in the burglary but was arrested for resisting/obstructing a peace officer, prowling upon property of another, and violating the term of an OR release. Moore was out of jail on his own recognizance after being arrested and booked for being in possession of a stolen vehicle in Fortuna. Moore was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
