The Eureka Extreme Weather Shelter has opened tonight as the Mission is full. There are 10 men already using the facility. The 32 person capacity shelter has averaging 10 or 11 clients a night. Steve Bell, the shelter Coordinator says that they’ve helped a lot of different people in the week the shelter has been available. “We’ve had new faces about 2 new people a day,” he explained.
Bell asked everyone to please direct people to go to the Mission, 110 2nd Street in Eureka. There they will go through intake, which includes food, hot showers and clean clothes.
Just as happened tonight, once the Mission reaches capacity, after intake at the Mission, folks are referred to the Extreme Weather Shelter based out of the St. Vincent’s Dining Facility.
Steve Bell can be reached at (707) 498-9611. He is very pleased with how the new shelter is working out. He thanks everyone who has helped including the Eureka Main St. organization, the Chamber, the North Coast Veteran’s Resource Center, the Eureka Rescue Mission and the people at Teen Challenge. “Its a really positive situation here.,” he said “I’m hoping that we provide a model of what can be done.”
