As of 7:30 this morning, the Flat Fire west of Redding has burnt across 874 acres. It closed Hwy 299 for awhile but according to Caltrans, the fire “30 miles west of Weaverville, remains under one way traffic control by Caltrans pilot car. The road is subject to complete closure at any time so travelers should anticipate delays.”
Phyllis Swanson who is the Shasta Trinity National Forest incident contact for this fire says that there are 385 people working on site. There are seven handcrews, three dozers, 10 engines, one helicopter and two water tenders at this time.
Temperatures are supposed to reach 100 degrees there today.
