Redwood Coast Energy Authority Press Release:
Elementary and Middle Schools of Humboldt County are invited to apply to be a part of the Redwood Neighborhood Energy Challenge. Three schools will be selected from the applicants to be sponsored by neighborhood teams and could win a customized energy project or solar array. Applications are due by July.
The Redwood Neighborhood Energy Challenge will engage residents of the selected school districts to form neighborhood teams and save energy in their homes. Savings will then be averaged over all participants and the team with the greatest savings will win for their school. Each school will also receive an energy assessment and consultation in order to determine their customized energy project. Some schools may qualify for a Solar Array. The winning school will have their project managed and paid for in full.
The Energy Challenge starts in the fall and we are currently recruiting schools in order to have their assessments over the summer and time to recruit team members. Three Humboldt County schools have already applied: Freshwater Elementary, Fortuna Middle School and Cuddeback Elementary.
The Redwood Neighborhood Energy Challenge is funded by a Pacific Gas and Electric Company Innovator Pilot Grant and is administered by the Redwood Coast Energy Authority. Prize money is awarded by the PG&E Foundation.
