The California Highway Patrol has identified the motorcylist killed in yesterday’s horrible crash as 66-year-old Dennis Woodin of Ferndale. Contrary to earlier reports from the scene, Woodin was riding a Yamaha, not a Harley, and he was not attending the Redwood Run.
The driver of the other vehicle in the accident — William Robbins, 59, of Myers Flat, appears to be at fault. The CHP reports that Robbins, who was driving southbound in a Ford Explorer near Weott, crossed over the center line directly into Woodin’s path. They crashed head-on. Woodin was killed immediately, and Robbins sustained major injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding.
The police are not sure why Robbins strayed out of his lane. They are still investigating whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
