On 03-15-2012, approximately 5:00 a.m. Humboldt County Correctional Staff was notified by a female inmate that another female inmate appeared to need medical assistance. The Correctional Staff checked on the 57 year old female she was referring to and saw she was not breathing. They immediately summoned for emergency medical assistance and Correctional Staff began C.P.R. until medical help arrived.
Ambulance and Fire arrived at the Correctional Facility and the female was transported to St. Josephs Hospital Emergency Room where she was pronounced deceased by the Emergency Room doctor. As per policy the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was notified and responded to the Correctional Facility to conduct an investigation, the Humboldt County District Attorneys’ Office was notified. The Humboldt County Coroners Office was also notified and responded.
There is no indication of foul play. It is unknown why the 57 year old female quit breathing. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week to determine the cause of death.
