Mendocino Co. Sheriff Press Release:

On 5-25-2012 a Warden from the California Department of Fish and Game was called to investigate environmental damage at 35750 Etsel Ridge Road in Covelo.

A citizen, 66 year-old Jerry Tergis of Covelo assisted the Game Warden by leading him to the scene of the environmental violations he wished to report. Tergis reported that large-scale marijuana growing in the area was resulting in environmental damage and water diversion. The Game Warden followed Tergis as Tergis drove his silver Toyota passenger car to the scene.

As they approached the location, the Warden observed Tergis deliberately accelerate his vehicle and drive directly through the closed gate, just missing two men standing on the other side of the gate. Two 36 year-old males working on repairing the livestock gate narrowly escaped being struck by the Tergis’ vehicle.

Tergis was detained by the Game Warden until Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to assume responsibility for the investigation. Tergis was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and transported to County Jail in Ukiah.
