Fortuna Police Dept.  Press Release:

On November 25, 2012 at about 7:30 am, officers with the Fortuna Police Department responded to a business located in the 600 block of Tenth Street for a burglary investigation.

Upon arrival, officers determined that during the night time hours, suspects broke into the closed business and caused several thousand dollars in damage to equipment in the business and stole an undisclosed amount of money before leaving.

Officers began conducting follow up and were able to identify a suspect. At about 3:00 pm, Officer located the subject in a business located in the 500 block of Main Street.

The suspect Jason Burhenn (age 33) was found to be on supervised release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation pursuant to the Public Safety Realignment Act of 2011 and had an active warrant out of Kern County.

Officers conducted a search of Burhenn’s person and located several of the stolen items as well as additional evidence of his involvement in the burglary. During the course of the investigation, officers were also able to determine that Burhenn had taken a portion of the stolen cash and opened a bank account at a local banking institution.

Burhenn was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on the following charges:

• California Penal Code Section 459 (Burglary)
• California Penal Code Section 496 (Possession of Stolen Property)
• Kern County Arrest Warrant
