First a hush for the Autumn which is passing away
A covering of leaves growing thicker each day.
Then a cheer for the children all dressed in their dreams
Who offer thanks and bright faces
For toffees and creams.
Huzzah to the moms. Hooray for the dads
Who sew costumes and find
Swords, hats and doodads.
Honor to the business folk
Who give candy for hours
Or proffer books to the young ones
Through Halloween showers
Thanks to the neighbors who offer treats and a scare
A community lives because of people who care.
Thanks for everyone who handed out candy and smiles tonight.
Thanks for the costumes and the creativity and the joy.
May a bit of the happiness you shared
Warm your heart through the winter which comes.
