Humboldt Co. Press Release:
The County of Humboldt is asking property owners to wait until they receive their corrected yellow tax bill to pay their taxes. Due to an error, property tax bills with incorrect information were sent out last week. Therefore, the corrected yellow versions will be mailed out by the end of this month.
The original tax bills display incorrect rates for school bonds, and the new bills correct that error. The County anticipates that the difference between the two bills will be very small in the vast majority of these cases. But as required by law the County must ensure accuracy in all tax bills sent to property owners. These corrected bills satisfy that requirement.
Any payments already made toward your 2012-2013 year will be accepted. If you have already made both installment payments, and the corrected amount is less than what you have already paid, a refund will be mailed to you. If you have paid the first installment only, and the corrected amount is different than what you have already paid, your second installment will be adjusted accordingly. If you have not yet sent in any payments for this year, please wait until you receive your corrected tax bill to begin payment.
Due dates have not and will not change. They remain the same as previous years. The due date will continue to be Nov. 1, 2012 and payments received, or postmarked, after Dec. 10, 2012 will be considered delinquent.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused Humboldt County taxpayers. We are moving as quickly as possible to correct the situation and to ensure this does not happen again,” said Auditor-Controller Joe Mellett. “Customer service and being easy to do business with remain our top priorities.”
