On 9/12/12, at about 10:30 AM, investigators with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) conducted a probation compliance check at a residence on the 100 block of West Henderson Street, Eureka. This was in response to complaints from neighbors and beat officers concerning stolen property and vehicles associated with the residence.

During a search of the residence, investigators found a purse belonging to Sara Jean Gibson (age 25 of Eureka), who was visiting the home. Inside Gibson’s purse, investigators located drug use paraphernalia and a small quantity of heroin and methamphetamine. They also recovered a stolen U.S. passport and checkbook belonging to the recent victim of a vehicle burglary in Arcata.

Inside another room in the residence, investigators found more stolen property taken during a recent theft from a vehicle in Eureka.

Gibson was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where she was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, and probation violation.

An arrest warrant alleging possession of stolen property is also pending for a resident who was not home at the time the probation search was conducted.

Additionally, an official with the City of Eureka’s Building Department responded to the scene to address unsanitary conditions of the premise (a large amount of rubbish and debris). Due to the presence of two small children living there, Child Welfare Services was also called to the scene to assess the safety and living conditions in the home.
