Fortuna Police Press Release:
On September 20, 2012 at about 7:15 p.m., an officer with the Fortuna Police Department was on patrol when he observed a subject known to be a registered sex offender. The officer conducted a check on the subject’s registration status and determined that he had failed to update his registration which was due in mid August.
As a result of the violation, the officer contacted Ronald Owings (age 56) and placed him under arrest. During the arrest, the officer determined that Owings was in possession of 6.3 grams of methamphetamine, as well as a hypodermic syringe loaded with suspected methamphetamine.
Owings was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, and Failure to register as a Sex Offender
Upon further investigation, the officer learned that, although last registered in Loleta, Owings had been living in Fortuna.
