Traffic was well backed up on northbound 101 in Arcata when I drove through it about 20 minutes ago, due to this snafu at the intersection of 101 and 299. I’m guessing it is probably still so. No one was injured.

But that’s nothing to the hints of the story contained in this report. A car plunged some 500 feet into the Klamath River up near Orleans at around 6 a.m. Info is a little scarce, but the crash was apparently reported to personnel at Mad River Hospital some four hours later. Law enforcement is looking for divers to get to the vehicle, which is “completely submerged” in the river.
