Caltrans press release:
Caltrans announced … that an informal public open house for a Route 101 safety project in Arcata will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Arcata City Council Chambers, 736 F Street.
The safety project would install a cable barrier in the highway median from the 11th Street Overcrossing to the Arcata Overhead Bridge on Route 101. The project goal is to reduce the potential for cross-median collisions. The barriers are designed to deflect vehicles that may travel into the median and are constructed of metal posts with metal cables strung horizontally. The project would include the removal non-native shrubs and the application of native grass and wildflower seed in the areas of the median where the soil is disturbed.
The meeting is for informational purposes and there will be no formal presentation. Members of the community will have opportunity to view displays and ask questions of Caltrans staff.
