CHP Press Release:
On Saturday April 27, 2013, 25 year old Jeff Tyler Hughes of Whitethorn, CA, was driving southbound on Briceland Thorn Road, .7 miles north of the Mendocino County Line. Hughes was driving his personally owned 1992 Toyota SR5 when he allowed his vehicle to leave the right side of the roadway. Upon attempting to return his vehicle to the roadway, Hughes lost control of the pickup. The pickup then slid east across the road before striking a small dirt embankment. The pickup subsequently overturned. The pickup ultimately came to rest on its side. Hughes was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and was transported to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital in Garberville. Hughes was treated for a loss of consciousness and severe pain to his right hip. Alcohol was determined to be a factor in this collision.
The California Highway Patrol urges motorists to always wear their seatbelts and to not drink and drive.
