Sundara Collier-Clark calls her quirky Humboldt business her labor of love. She says her two daughters, Gigi and Lola, inspired her making and selling dairy-free frozen desserts. “I am always scoping the grocery store shelves for healthy treats that my kids will actually like. Not easy. They’re particularly picky about dairy-free frozen desserts. And so am I. I couldn’t find one that was simple and wholesome, with ingredients my kids could pronounce. So… I created my own… .”
Collier-Clark blends maple syrup and organic raw cashews as the base. “[T]hey’re high in antioxidants, copper, magnesium, and flavonoids, which have been shown to eliminate free radicals. Oh, and they also promote cardiovascular health since they’re high in oleic acid—that’s the same stuff found in olive oil and avocados.” S
Then she adds different flavors. “We’re serving Naked Vanilla, Naked Chocolate, Strawberry Vortex, Mocha Madness, Chai & I, Coffee Cream Dream, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Midnight Mint, Pineapple Orange Banana Sorbet (nut-free) and other flavors depending on what is in season,” she says. She even offers gluten free cones.
Collier-Clark says she is proud of making healthy treats but she knows how important it is to create something delicious. “…[W]e all know, none of this would matter if it didn’t also taste amazing, right? It does. Trust me. But more than that, try it for yourself.”
Vixen Kitchen Premium Vegan Ice Cream is at the Garberville Town Square Farmers Market on Fridays. They often serve gluten free ice cream sandwiches, too. Collier-Clark says, “Stop by for a scoop, cup or a pint!”
The new treats will soon be {are now] available in Chautauqua Natural Foods and Eureka Natural Foods.
