The Butler Fire continues to burn out of control between Somes Bar and Forks of Salmon. According to a press release by the NorCal Interagency Incident Management Team and the US Forest Service,

Today the fire moved through Grant Creek drainage and began backing into the Butler Creek area. [See story of resident here] Fire was reported across Lewis Creek last night and was active in the Lewis Creek Drainage today. Firefighters continued to provide structure protection in Butler Flat, and completed additional structure protection measures in the Nordheimer Flat area. Good progress was made preparing control lines ahead of the western and northern flank. Rolling material continues to be a hazard along Highway 93 and on the Forks of Salmon Road.

Helicopters were used to support ground crews in cooling several spot fires on the southern edge of the fire.

Because Highway 93 (Forks of Salmon Road) remains closed due to rolling debris and rocks, about half of the 636 resources on the fire are being supported at Aikens Creek Campground near Orleans, while the other half are stationed at Nordheimer Flat.

The land around the Salmon River is closed 300 feet from the high watermark between the confluence of Wooley Creek and the confluence of Nordheimer Creek.
