Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Press Release:

On 08-5-2013, at approximately 5:00 a.m. a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy saw a green Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on Harris Avenue near R st, Eureka. The deputy recognized the vehicle as a reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle had recently been reported stolen to Eureka Police Department. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at S Street near Wood Street, Eureka.  Additional deputies and Eureka Police Officers responded to assist the deputy. After the vehicle was stopped, the deputy detained the driver, identified as Jimmy Darrell Bowie, 38 years old from Loleta and the 29 year old male passenger. When the deputy spoke with Bowie he told the deputy he borrowed the car. The deputy could see the ignition was punched out.  Bowie was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle. Deputies conducted an inventory search of the vehicle. While conducting the search one of the deputies recognized a tool bag that was reported stolen in a residential burglary on 08-04-2013 in the 1500 block of Fern street, Eureka.  The tools were reported to be worth approximately $4,000.00.

The deputies also found other tools and a camera in the vehicle they believe were stolen property.  Those tools are a Milwaukee cordless drill, a Milwaukee Sawzall, a Central Pnuematic floor stapler (hardwood flooring nail gun) and a Swift monocular. The camera is a Nikon D40 camera which has numerous photos on it. The photos are of birds and wildlife. The deputies seized those items and booked them into evidence on suspicion of being stolen property. Deputies also located a homemade illegal weapon in the car.

Bowie was interviewed and told the deputies his passenger had nothing to do with the stolen vehicle or property. The passenger was released at the scene.   Bowie was arrested for possession of stolen property, possession of an illegal weapon and driving unlicensed. He was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked. His bail was set at $100,000.00.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to locate the owners of the suspected stolen property so it can be returned to them.
