UPDATE 5:12 P.M.: CHP Spokesperson, Matt Harvey, explained that an officer arrived at the accident and a man that the officer believed to be the driver “took foot bail”—ran away. The officer gave chase and managed to catch the man without use of force. There were two passengers which were injured in the crash.
The suspect received injuries as a result of the crash and was transferred to Redwood Memorial. At this time, it is unknown whether he will be released to officers and arrested or if he will need to stay in the hospital.
The suspect, Ronald Owings, age 57, faces charges of felony hit and run and misdemeanor resisting a police officer. There was already a felony, no bail warrant for his arrest so he will be facing those charges also. Owings is a registered sex offender.
