Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:
On 12-28-2013, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman who lives in the 4000 block of Greenwood Heights Road, Eureka. The woman reported a man had just tried to enter her residence. The woman told the dispatcher she heard a male voice outside her home and then pounding on her front door. The man tried to open the door to her residence, but could not because it was locked. The woman watched the suspect then get into her mailbox and take her mail.
Sheriff’s deputies and a California Highway Patrol (C.H.P.) Officer responded to the area to look for the suspect who was last seen walking down Greenwood Heights Road. The C.H.P Officer located the suspect in the driveway of a nearby residence and detained him for deputies. When deputies arrived they spoke with the suspect who identified himself as Robert Sean McCarthy, 52 years old from McKinleyville. McCarthy admitted to trying to enter the woman’s residence. Deputies searched McCarthy and located the victim’s stolen mail in his possession along with mail stolen from three other Greenwood Heights residents. McCarthy was arrested for possession of stolen property and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His bail was set at $25,000.00.
