On 07-21-2013, approximately 2:30 a.m., the Eureka Police Department broadcasted that a 1995 White Honda Accord had been stolen from the 1400 block of H Street, Eureka. At approximately 4:45 a.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff was parked at the intersection of Herrick Avenue and Elk River Road, Eureka, when the Honda drove by him. The deputy confirmed the vehicle was stolen and attempted to stop it. The Honda sped up and a pursuit was initiated. The Honda drove northbound into Eureka on Broadway with the Sheriff’s Deputy pursuing it, reaching speeds of up to 75 mph in a 40 mph zone. The Honda turned onto Harris Street from Broadway and attempted to lose the pursuing deputy by making several turns onto multiple streets, During the pursuit, the Honda ran through several stop lights and stop signs before the Honda drove onto Q street, which is a dead end. The driver jumped out of the still moving vehicle and was last seen running southeast towards Duck Street, Eureka. The Honda came to stop with the front passenger wheel off an embankment. The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes and covered approximately three miles police responded and assisted the deputy with searching the area for the suspect who was the only occupant of the vehicle. The suspect was not located after an extensive search of the area.
The suspect is described as follows: A dark skinned male adult, 5’ 7” tall, 140 to 150 lbs, last seen wearing a yellowish tan plaid zip up hoody style sweatshirt.
