UPDATE 7/5: Bryan says that as of 3 A.M. the Black Fire was contained and the cause is under investigation.
UPDATE 1:36 A.M.: There is now only one active fire [the Black Fire]in Shelter Cove according to KMUD News. It is 1.9 acres.
After multiple small fire in the Southern Humboldt area on July 4th, the Shelter Cove area is experiencing a serious fire. Terri Klemetson posted in KMUD news that, according to Doug Bryan of the SHFCA, a fire which started in Little Black Sands Beach area is threatening multiple structures “near Black Sands Beach & Upper Pacific. Calfire sending more engines and [handcrews] to help suppress the blaze.”
Klemetson explained to LoCO that there are two fires now in the Shelter Cove area. The second is near Sea Foam area. She wrote, “Shelter cove firefighters reportedly saved a house at the [Upper Pacific] location.”
