Well if this artist rendering is to be believed, there will soon be a courthouse in Humboldt you won’t have to avert your eyes from. Pull it together, salmon palace!
Shovels will penetrate dirt Monday, July 8 at a ceremony to commemorate the start of construction on the new Federal courthouse in McKinleyville. The over 22,000 square foot, single story building to be located in McKinleyville’s Airport Business Park will be home to one courtroom as well as office space for various government agencies.
Should you want to attend the proceedings — or if you’re itching to get one last look at an empty lot before it becomes something different — here’s the details, including the list of bigwigs scheduled to appear:
What: Groundbreaking Ceremony
When: Monday, July 8, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.
Where: Airport Business Park, Boeing Court, McKinleyville, California (adjacent to the Airport)
Who: Steven Doctor, President, C&SD Construction, Inc.
Speakers: The Honorable Charles R. Breyer, District Judge; The Honorable Nandor Vadas, Magistrate Judge; Marshal O’Keefe, United States Marshal Service; Ryan Sundberg, Supervisor, District 5
Frivolous side note: We know the image provided to instill hope and excitement in this new project is just an artist rendering and, yes, the people in it are very nicely dressed, but we don’t trust this guy (above). Just sayin’. Dude gives us the creeps.
Anyway, odds are he won’t be at the ceremony. Full press release on the event below:
Construction is about to begin on the new U.S. Courthouse, which will be located in the Airport Business Park in McKinleyville. Developer, Eureka Skyline Partners LLC, is celebrating the groundbreaking at an outdoor ceremony on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 11:00 am.
The new 22,853 square foot, single story Federal courthouse will house one courtroom and office space for the U.S. Magistrate Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the Probation Department, the District Clerk, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Marshal Service.
Moser Properties is the Airport Business Park Developer. According to owner, Steve Moser, “The building design meets stringent Federal requirements as well as incorporating the latest technology in a beautiful setting. We think the tenants will be very happy with the building design and impressed with the high efficiency heating and cooling systems. It’s a wonderful project proving that a large building can still be beautiful and energy efficient.”
The July 8th ceremony will include Federal and local officials, as well as the project developer and construction company. Local media are invited to attend, (media credentials will be required). We recommend media arrive no later than 10:45am so we can accommodate any set up requests. A schematic of the new building will be available. Under discussion will be the building specifics as well as the economic importance of this long-term Federal lease to the local area. Construction will begin in September and is scheduled for completion in fall 2014.
